Care Guide
Unlike many other mottled-leaf Paphiopedilums that prefer strictly warm environments, P. wardii comes from higher altitudes and leans toward cooler to intermediate temperatures, though it is quite adaptable.
  • Light: Prefers bright, indirect, or shaded light. An east- or west-facing window is ideal. Never expose it to harsh, direct sunlight.
  • Temperature: Ideal daytime temperatures are 20°C–28°C (68°F–82°F). A drop in night temperatures down to 16°C–18°C (60°F–64°F) in the winter helps trigger blooming.
  • Watering: Keep the medium evenly moist but not waterlogged. Let it just approach dryness before watering again. Never let the roots sit in stagnant water, and avoid getting water trapped in the center crown of the leaves to prevent rot.
  • Potting Medium: Use a well-aerating mix composed of fine-to-medium orchid bark, perlite, charcoal, and a bit of sphagnum moss to retain light moisture.
  • Fertilizer: Feed with a well-diluted, balanced orchid fertilizer (at 1/4 to 1/2 strength) every two to three weeks during the active growing season
