Dendrobium senile
1 Plant bloom size , pot 1"
Cultivation & Care
Because it originates from environments with distinct monsoonal shifts, replicating its natural seasonal cycle is critical to keeping it healthy and inducing blooms.
-
Light: This species requires very bright, indirect light, typically in the range of 20,000 to 35,000 lux. It can tolerate morning sun but needs slight shading during the hottest summer months.
-
Water & Temperature: During the active summer growing season, it prefers warm temperatures (up to 28–29°C) and consistent moisture. However, it requires a strict, cooler winter rest period (dropping down to around 15°C) where watering is drastically reduced to simulate the dry season.
-
Mounting: Due to its somewhat pendulous growth habit and need for rapid drying between waterings, it performs much better mounted on cork bark or tree fern plaques rather than potted in standard substrate
